Membership of COAT is open to all tribunals operation in Australia and New Zealand.

Membership fees are set in accordance with COAT's constitution at AU$50.00 plus GST (not applicable for NZ) per full-time member, or part-time member or sessional member equivalent. Please refer to attached examples.

COAT was established to encourage communication between the leaders and members of Tribunals throughout Australasia; to promote and encourage the development of best practice models for tribunals; and, to provide a forum for education, research and reform in the field of administrative justice.

Among other things, COAT will:

Host the Annual COAT Conference
Offer masterclasses designed for experienced Tribunal members, in Australia and New Zealand.
Provide on-line Induction courses for new Tribunal members, led by current and former experienced members of the judiciary and tribunals.
Provide Decision Writing Courses and continue to develop other training resources.
Continue to represent COAT on the Judicial Council on Cultural Diversity and other organisations.
Periodically review and update the Tribunal Excellence Framework and the COAT Practice Manual for Tribunals.
Review and develop Best Practice Guides
Further develop its website to facilitate better communication between member Tribunals and to improve access to training resources.

COAT’s ability to represent and support tribunals in Australia and New Zealand is reliant on the continued financial support of members.

How can I participate in COAT?

The NSW Chapter of COAT was established in 25 February 2004. Membership is open to any person with an interest in tribunals and the work of the Council. Members agree to be bound by the Constitution of the Council of Australasian Tribunals, NSW Chapter Incorporated when applying to become a member of this chapter, and are supportive of the Objectives of the Council of Australasian Tribunals Incorporated.
