The ACT Chapter of the Council of Australasian Tribunals was established at a meeting of members of a number of ACT tribunals in Canberra on 3 April 2003. Many of those tribunals were subsequently absorbed into ACAT. The Chapter comprises approximately 48 members of the ACAT, and members of the Commonwealth AAT, as well as academics, practitioners and other interested persons. Membership is open to any person ordinarily resident in the Australian Capital Territory or the Australian Capital region who is a member of a Tribunal that is a member of the Council or a practitioner, academic, student or other person interested in the work of the Council.
